Every two years, the global ultrarunning community unites for one of the most spectacular events in sports: the Team World Championship Backyard. Held simultaneously in over 60 countries across the globe, national teams of 15 runners push beyond their limits, battling the clock and the distance until only one nation remains standing.

The Road to Team Belgium

How do you secure your spot on the Belgian national team? There are two ways to qualify for the ultimate backyard showdown.

1. The Silver Ticket

For the current cycle, Belgium hosts 6 official Silver Ticket events. Winning one of these guarantees a spot on the team, but there is a catch: only a Belgian winner can claim the Silver Ticket. If a foreign runner wins the race, the ticket is lost!

Here is the current status of the Belgian Silver Ticket races:

• One More Loop (05/09/2025): Won by Yvan de Graef with 35 loops. Ticket Claimed!
• What’s Your Limit? Backyard Beauraing (04/04/2026): No Belgian winner. No ticket awarded.
• Legends Backyard Belgium (25/04/2026): No Belgian winner. No ticket awarded.
• Jusqu’à la fin – Backyard Ultra (02/05/2026): Won by Gil Pochet with 28 loops. Ticket Claimed!
• Antwerp Backyard Ultra 2026 (19/06/2026): Upcoming
• Vloethemveld Backyard (15/08/2026): Upcoming

2. The At-Large List

Didn’t snag a Silver Ticket? The remaining spots on the 15-person roster are filled via the At-Large list. This ranking is based purely on the highest number of loops completed by a Belgian runner in any official backyard ultra worldwide, provided the race starts between August 16, 2024, and August 15, 2026.

Tie-Breaking Rules:

What happens if multiple runners have the exact same number of loops?

Result beats Assist: A race Winner (W) will always rank higher than an Assist (A) with the same number of loops.

First in time: If the qualification status is still identical, the date decides. The runner who achieved the performance first will be ranked above the later performance.
